Mountaineer Memories
Presidential Augusta Ambassadors share their Mountaineer Memories
I loved having evening classes in Martin Hall. One semester I only had evening classes and it was a great way to end the day -- walking out and seeing the historical campus buildings lit up every night.
-Stephanie Ballard-Conrad
One of the most impactful memories I had was completing a study abroad trip in Tanzania and Uganda in the summer after my junior year.
This was my first genuine cultural exchange with people outside of the US and opened my eyes to a broader world. In more ways than one, it was a life-changing experience.
-Christopher Drescher
My favorite memory is my experience working with friends to create the student organization, originally called Cafe con Leche, that eventually became Firsthand Coffee.
I fondly remember our highly caffeinated meetings and early outreach on campus, trying to hook everyone who walked by with the line, "hey, do you know where your coffee comes from?" Creating Firsthand will always be one of my proudest accomplishments.
-Rachel James
My favorite collection of memories was my opportunity to travel on a study abroad trip to Spain.
A group of us Mountaineers became lifelong friends, some met their lifetime partners, and we became more confident and global citizens. I still have pictures from this trip hanging on the wall in our bedroom in the apartment I share with my boyfriend.
-Victoria Reiser
I was able to travel abroad through the Education Abroad Office seven different times and winning the Truman Scholarship in April 2018.
-Emma Harrison
Helping folks in Rainelle, West Virginia after the summer 2016 floods.
-Trevor Keiss
Hosting NCAA Championships in the Colosseum and finishing my match with a standing ovation from Mountaineer Nation!
-Ginny Thrasher
Astronomy Club nights on the roof of the physics building.

My wife and I started dating at West Virginia. She runs a successful law firm in Virginia. The first time I asked her out, she said no. My persistence eventually wore her down.
We used to go camping at a place called Blue Hole. The late night fire, swimming, and friends still feels like yesterday.
-Mike DeFede
I was the President of the Student Nursing Association while at WVU. During my senior year, we developed a service project called, "Puppies for Patients." We went to the local dog shelter and took several of the small dogs and puppies to a local nursing home for the residents to play with.
Watching the joy on the faces of those residents, and seeing the love the shelter dogs showed them, was a pivotal moment in my life. Such a small act of service brought so much happiness and spread so much love!
-Elizabeth Minchau
I spent a lot of time sitting in the lobby of Woodburn Hall, whether preparing for class or just taking a moment to gather my thoughts.
I remember fondly many advising and class sessions with Dr. Joe Hagan and Dr. Robert DiClerico, both for challenging me intellectually and encouraging me to push positive boundaries.
-Steven Robison
Too hard to name only one!
-Brian Caveney
So many. But, attending football games and working New Student Orientation are among my favorites.
-Stephanie Taylor
One of my many favorite memories was a triple overtime come back to beat Louisville my third year of med school. Steve Slaton scored six touch downs in the second half for the comeback. So many people, including many of my friends, left early because they thought there was no way we could win.
-Melany Atkins
2012 was WVU's inaugural Big 12 Conference season. We hosted Texas for our first Big 12 volleyball match on August 29, 2012 in front of the largest crowd the Coliseum has ever had for a volleyball match and it was televised for the first time ever. Despite it ending in an L, playing on the court that day, knowing that I was part of something so much bigger than myself and something so historical for WVU, forever changed what it meant for me to say "Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer."
-Liz Gulick Henderson
I will always cherish my time spent at WVU. My favorite Mountaineer memory is being titled Ms. Mountaineer in 2019. My entire family was at Milan Puskar Stadium cheering me on, and it is a memory I will never forget.
-Caroline Leadmon
Being roommates with my younger brother during my senior year :)
